Representatives of Latin America’s gambling sector have announced the creation of the International Gaming Federation (IGF). The primary objectives of the alliance are to coordinate actions in the fight against illegal platforms and to eliminate regulatory gaps.
Another goal is related to more effective regional cooperation. The new body will enable the joint resolution of cross-border issues that cannot be effectively addressed at the level of individual nations.
The association already includes the following states:
Evert Montero Cárdenas has been appointed President of the federation for a 3-year term. Currently, he heads the Colombian Fecoljuegos, an association of niche enterprises. The IGF’s members considered the country’s experience to be the most valuable for implementing the new structure.
The practices and tools to be used comprise:
Mr Cárdenas noted that the IGF will become a powerful unifying force, ensuring the responsible growth of the sphere.
Unlicensed brands and money laundering remain global issues that require a comprehensive approach. Until now, each state has addressed these nuances on its own, with varying results. The new body aims to enhance the effectiveness of combating illegal cases through cross-border partnerships.
The organisation plans to:
At the time, 4 more countries have expressed interest in joining the alliance:
They are expected to hop in by the end of 2025. The new members intend to adopt the best practices of sustainable and effective supervision. In the future, the union may also include specialised organisations from Europe, North America, and Asia. Expansion beyond Latin states reflects the desire to create a single legal framework that ensures transparency and security for all market participants.
The initiative has already found a response in other regions. Thus, the Colombian authority, Coljuegos, proposed forming the Ibero-American Commission of Gaming Regulators to oversee the sector in Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking nations. The statement was made in May at one of the niche summits.
International alliances become a convenient tool for coordinating global aspects:
The IGF builds its activities around 3 key standards:
Previously, national authorities in the region had focused on European and North American practices, but this approach proved ineffective. The new body will take into account domestic cultural and economic characteristics, making supervision more effective.
