Brazil Introduces the Mandatory Registration of Bookmakers on Consumidor

Brazil’s authorities have revealed a new requirement for commercial participants in the domestic web betting market. Every operator wishing to work in the country must register on Consumidor.gov.br, the government’s platform for accepting customer complaints.

The decision was made as part of the cooperation between a couple of bodies:

• the Ministry of Justice’s Secretaria Nacional do Consumidor (Senacon);
• the Ministry of Finance’s Secretaria de Prêmios e Apostas (SPA).

The measure aims to make the industry more transparent and strengthen the protection of user rights in the rapidly developing online wagering segment. The portal, which receives complaints across diverse verticals, has already examined a whopping number of inquiries: 8.9+ million. The level of satisfactory dispute resolution reaches about 81%.

According to the government’s representatives, the introduction of bookmakers to this network will increase user confidence. This decision will allow the National Consumer Protection System’s bodies to control the segment more efficiently. With this service, gamblers will be able to ask signed brands their questions directly.

The interaction process includes several stages:

1. Filing a complaint. The player leaves an inquiry to the selected bookmaker via the website.
2. Waiting for operator response. The entrepreneur has 240 hours to prepare and send an answer with a presented solution.
3. Shaping ratings. Over the next 20 days, the applicant evaluates whether the issue has been settled and submits a review revealing the quality of the service provided.

To check a wagering brand’s licences, punters can go to Consumidor.gov.br and enter the company’s name in the search bar. According to Brazilian authorities, this method is the most reliable and fastest way for customers to make sure they receive legitimate offers from a certified enterprise.
