The International Gaming Standards Association's (IGSA) Ethical Artificial Intelligence (EAI) Committee has introduced a document on the proper use of AI covering 9 essential topics. It is the first time that one of the global organisation’s non-technical divisions has released such material.

The guidelines were created with the input of the IGSA’s Regulatory Committee, which consists exclusively of representatives from gambling authorities. Mark Pace, the Association’s President, said the practices were designed primarily for overseeing bodies to help them monitor the use of AI in the entertainment sphere.
The document cites: industry members know that systems based on artificial intelligence and deployed in the gaming segment should be reliable and responsible. Nevertheless, the global community faces challenges because it lacks an understanding of this innovation.
A particular concern is that poor knowledge may lead regulators to:
- allowing unethical use of algorithms and/or apps inadvertently;
- creating fragmented, insufficient supervising policies;
- causing deeper confusion and delays in AI implementation.
Responsibilities of Providers and Operators
Technology suppliers are required to disclose to gambling platform owners information about products that use algorithms based on artificial intelligence. It is necessary to inform players that they compete against robots ultimately. If these specifics are not clearly communicated or are not available as part of the product instructions provided by the developer, operators must notify end customers of this possibility.
The final directions should be delivered in clear and easy-to-understand language.
Nimish Purohit, IGSA’s Board Chairman, stated that the paper is only the Association’s first and definitely not the last material. The organisation prepares to issue similar guidance from other committees within its structure. The publications will be considered «living documents» and will be supplemented as new developments emerge.
