This month, the Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) has adopted brand-new promotion rules to control advertising of sports wagering, casino and video gambling across the state. The committee also approved a range of regulatory decisions, including renewing licences for several top-performing facilities.

Brand-New Advertising Rules
Recently adopted directions will provide uniform advertising regulations and norms across all Illinois' gaming markets under the IGB jurisdiction. This step is part of the board's attempts to review current rules and measure the efficacy of gambling expansion implementation. The reformed regulations present extra safeguards and extend existing marketing rules to casino and video gaming for the first time.

The Renewal of Licences

Rivers Casino is Illinois's top-performing facility. In the first eight months of 2024, it reported $ 346.2 million in winnings and contributed $ 103.9 million in state and local taxes. The venue has also invested in infrastructure, completing a $ 115 million expansion in 2022 and a $ 6 million renovation for a VIP lounge and restaurant.
In the meantime, Hawthorne Race Course was among the first establishments to offer retail sports wagering in the state. The venue opened its bookmaker in 2020 through PointsBet, acquired by Fanatics for $ 225 million in 2023. The transition to Fanatics-branded retail and mobile betting platforms occurred earlier this year.
The committee also approved a four-year Management Services Provider permit for Rush Street Interactive, which runs BetRivers' mobile sportsbook in cooperation with Rivers Casino.
