The regulatory authorities of the Danish gaming marketplace, namely Spillemyndigheden, are launching a new MitID system on July 1, 2022.
What Is MitID?
The scheme is an updated version of NemID, which has been serving as a way of online verification for Danes for 12 years.
People have been using it for:
- the login to personal bank accounts;
- communication with government agencies;
- identification for various online services.
The project was created jointly by state and private businesses. All citizens are obliged to switch to the updated system.
Further Actions for Operators
All licence holders are required to switch to the new MitID verification scheme.
Gambling companies are permitted to use both applications for a short period. This decision will allow operators to prepare for obliged changes.
The entrepreneurs were informed about the upcoming replacements as the first announcements about the new ID check were made in the summer of 2020.
The government planned to launch MitID in May 2021. However, the introduction of the new application was delayed until now.
