To assist punters in identifying which gaming sites are authorised, Slovakia’s Office for the Regulation of Gambling plans to develop a special register.
The creation of a whitelist of entertainment platforms run by authorised distributors was announced by the body. This is done in addition to the publicly accessible illicit domains blacklist it currently maintains.
The regulator also pointed out that it was difficult to keep the register of banned portals up to date because new sites continue to appear. However, it should be considerably simpler to uphold the whitelist.
A spokesperson of the body Dávid Lenčéš claimed that as soon as one unlawful portal is shut down, another is instantly set up. If users do not investigate the platform's essential documentation, they could not detect that it hosts illicit content that originates from abroad. This is how people forfeit the chance to collect their wins and the juridical protection provided by Slovakian laws.
Mr Lenčéš stated that the section «legal sites» will display all licensed domains of permitted companies. All those who are not on the list are thus prohibited.
By making data about platforms' legality more accessible, the regulator draws attention to online gaming resources operating within Slovakia's laws. It helps not only players but also honest businesses.
The expert emphasises that certified distributors are subject to remote surveillance and that rule violations might result in penalties or even licence revocation.
The regulatory body made an announcement last month about the publishing of a paper titled «Concept of Responsible Advertising» that aims to raise the standards for industry commercials. New guidelines for gambling promotion across all media will be outlined in the paper.
