The government of Canada has proposed a multi-step scheme that will facilitate the reopening of local casino establishments, as well as bingo venues. The plan was brought into the spotlight last week, with some businesses already announcing their return to the normal way of functioning.
According to the words of Doug Ford, an official representative of the Ontario government, the territory is planning to eventually lift some lockdown restrictions. Previously, some measures have been taken in the jurisdiction in order to prevent the fast increase in Omicron cases.
The said measures included closing all the land-based casinos at the beginning of January and going into a severe lockdown. These days, however, there are talks about reopening gambling spaces and letting visitors in.
As the official spokesperson stated, the Ontario province will come out of quarantine gradually, not all at once. This means it could take about three months to return back to a usual way of life, provided there will be no unexpected situations.
As of now, January 31 will be the date when gambling dens will officially open. Yet, the number of visitors will still be restricted, as the maximum number of guests will be 50% of the overall capacity.
The same rules will be established for public dining and drinking spots such as bars and restaurants. Additionally, the visitors will have to provide proof of being fully vaccinated.
If the plan goes smoothly, February 21 will be the date when the number of guests will be raised to 25% from general capacity. Still, the potential patrons will be asked about their vaccination documents.
Finally, by March 14, the Ontario government is planning to lift all the restrictions. Attendees will be able to freely enter land-based casinos.
Before Omicron became a widespread virus variant towards the end of 2021, there were no signs of a possible lockdown in the area. When the new type of a well-known disease started to negatively influence businesses and social events, the officials decided to introduce some drastic measures.
