Five months into Russia's continuing invasion of Ukraine, the Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries (KRAIL) has published an update on its efforts.
Anton Kuchukhidze, the control body spokesman, said that despite losing some resources, the organisation has maintained its regulatory responsibilities.
Although land-based gaming had restarted in the country's west, the war had nonetheless had a significant negative impact on commerce. Heavily disturbed gambling markets persisted in occupied eastern cities like Kherson and Mykolaiv.
According to Mr Kuchukhidze, things are better in the west of Ukraine. There are both casinos and slot machine halls. However, the number of tourists visiting has decreased, and by legislation, brick-and-mortar vendors may only be found in hotels. The organisation is aware that few people are willing to travel to the area due to the warfare.
Mr Kuchukhidze asserts that KRAIL is dedicated to reviving the gaming market, alongside other domestic businesses. He continued by saying that the agency will keep pushing for the industry changes approved last year.
The representative expressed his gratitude to the Commission for its tireless efforts and constant communication with members. Mr Kuchukhidze thinks that wartime is the most crucial period to assess the genuine demands of the market. This is pivotal since all parties have declared that reform is necessary.
